The experienced owners of this expedition-style vessel, who also cruise on Meteor, like to explore faraway places. Espen Øino and Lürssen’s engineering took their cue from naval ships and destroyers to come up with an efficient hull that can go more than 8,500 miles without refueling. The North American couple that owns the yacht loved the work Pauline Nunns did on the interior of their previous Lürssen yacht (now sold and renamed Polar Star) and asked her to create their new motoryacht’s homey interior. Nunns calls the style “shabby chic.” The roomy interior includes a sprawling and panoramic owner’s suite, which opens to a private deck. On the outside, the styling and paint scheme make the yacht distinctive and aptly conceals the huge amount of space available over six decks (including tank deck). Practical forward-sloping bridge deck windows and elegant bow jutting forward give the yacht a purposeful look. A “touch-and-go” helipad is a convenient way for owners to rejoin the vessel in remote areas, which her range, redundant machinery and huge amount of storage, make her perfectly suited to explore. Northern Star is available for charter and is also currently listed for sale by Moran Yacht and Ship.
