Unfold the fun
Spanish shipyard Astondoa unveiled drawings for the 63 Top Deck, a dayboat with big-yacht amenities, at the 2013 Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach. Luiz de Basto initially designed this versatile vessel for an owner with a young and active family. The owner was so enthused that he decided to create a whole series. The first in the series, the 63 Top Deck, will appeal to boaters looking for weekend fun on the water with its maneuverability, small draft and 1,076 square feet of entertainment space.

De Basto came up with innovative solutions and wrapped them in contemporary styling that is pleasing to the eye. The huge garage, which easily could be found on a much larger boat, has a transom door that opens to create a superyacht-style beach club. But that is only the starting point. The main-deck bulwarks also fold down to create more space. “I wanted this boat to be like a private island you could take anywhere, and I wanted it to look friendly and fun,” de Basto said. “Once you get to your destination, you open up the boat to enjoy the nature and the water.”
Astondoa, with headquarters in Santa Pola, Spain, will build the Top Deck series. The 63 debuts at the Cannes Boat Show in September 2013. The composite boat will be equipped with twin Volvo IPS 900s.
