When we asked a group of charter experts to give us their picks for the Caribbean’s top 10 destinations, Grenada easily found its place on that list. Its beauty certainly has something to do with it. Ann Landry of Northrop & Johnson described the island as an “amazingly lush and verdant isle of spice where anything will grow (and does).” Its location also helps. It is the getaway to the Grenadines, a favorite among sailors and also now a growing fleet of motoryachts. Private investments in the past few years helped grow facilities suitable for large yachts. Yachtsman Peter de Savary, who still owns property on the island, was the impetus for the magnificent marina at the heart of St. Georges, Port Louis, now run and operated by Camper Nicholsons Marinas. Recently, the Caribbean Development Bank funded a $375,000-grant, which will go toward training yacht maintenance and technical staff, increasing security, and streamlining clearance requirements for yachts traveling between Grenada and St. Vincent.
