Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Even the most careful boaters can sometimes be caught off guard, which is why it’s a good idea to be sure you have everything you need on board in case of an emergency. Just Marine recently demonstrated two easy-to-use products that aim to do just that.

The SOS Dan Buoy by SOS Marine is an inflatable buoy, contained in a neon-yellow bag. The re-usable 6-foot tall buoy inflates within seven seconds after water immersion. Made of highly reflective material, it includes a SOLAS-approved strobe light, which can help locate a MOB without a tracking device in the case of GPS failure.

Another handy tool to have on board is the Sea Scoopa, a specially designed MOB retrieval device by SOS Marine product. Weighing less than 40 pounds, this device helps transport an unconscious or injured person and reduces risk of injury to both the recovery team and the victim. Built for power and rescue craft, the Sea Scoopa hangs over the side of the craft and acts a bit like a hammock, scooping the victim from below. The handles attached to the end of the Scoopa help rescuers safely roll the victim onto the boat.
