It’s been three months since an early morning blaze put an abrupt halt to the construction of the 164-foot (50-meter) Star Fish. The fire gutted the interior of the nearly 75-percent complete project, and the owner has decided to sell as is. McMullen & Wing is offering the remaining undamaged hull, machinery and equipment for sale at a fraction of the cost and proposes to finish the landmark project, based on the multi-award winning Big Fish design, at its shipyard. The project could be launched within 18 months. While the blaze destroyed the superstructure and most of the interior, the steel hull and protected engine room were largely undamaged.

The hull was extensively surveyed to confirm structural integrity and viability of all remaining equipment. Everything that the shipyard management judged not up to their standards has been removed and discarded or recycled. The yard is willing to reconstruct the superstructure based on existing designs or work with a new owner on a completely new look. Also, since the interior has been taken back to the hull, there is the opportunity to redesign the layout to new specifications. The existing layout includes a 124-foot (38-meter) owner’s deck, six staterooms and extensive outdoor space.
