This Year’s Boating Scene: It’s Looking up!

At the US winter shows, the boating industry puts its best foot forward. Between Miami and Palm Beach, the region hosts no fewer than five major boat shows. The Yacht & Brokerage Show on Miami Beach and the Miami International Boat Show, and related Strictly Sail, run February 14 to 18. These three shows mark the debut of dozens of new models and showcase hundreds of craft, from small center consoles to megayachts.

Miami 2013: Austin Parker 42

Austin Parker’s recognizable style is obvious in the AP42 Open, a compact hull that can easily serve as a tender to a large yacht or a cabin cruiser in its own right. The main deck has a spacious open-air aft deck leading into the salon/dining area with full galley and helm station.

Cannes 2012: Austin Parker AP64 Fly

Austin Parker introduces it new 64 Fly, designed by Fulvio De Simoni to appeal to international markets with simple, modern and timeless lines. The 64 Fly is a comfortable and livable small yacht. The layout of the main living areas can be modified on request, and the three cabins, all with ensuite bathrooms, are elegantly finished with natural leather and fine woods.

This alluring and sturdy 42-footer is certainly appealing as a primary boat, but Denison Yacht Sales’ David Johnson, a former megayacht captain who is promoting the Italian brand in the United States, also thinks of it as a great tender for a 262-foot (80-meter) yacht. It certainly is cool and stylish enough.

The Austin Parker shipyard belongs to a wealthy and experienced boatbuilding family who also owns high-end restaurants. In 2008, the shipyard owners took over an established name and reached out to friend and designer Fulvio di Simoni to produce the next generation of Austin Parkers. Without overplaying it, they have a bit of a retro style with distant echoes of Maine fishing boats.

Denison To Represent Austin Parker

Tuscany-based Austin Parker was among the first Italian shipyards to build a so-called “lobster boat,” a range of classical, elegant midsize boats based on the traditional Maine fishing boats, with high bow, sturdy hull and straightforward layout and accommodations.
