Since its inception, the International SeaKeepers’ Society (ISKS) has worked to promote research and conservation of marine ecosystems. The non-profit’s programs and financial backing has already helped researchers learn more about the changes happening daily in the oceans. The recently introduced Scientific Vessel of Opportunity Program (SVOP) seeks to expand these efforts by encouraging scientists and the yachting community to work in partnership. By allowing their vessel to become a platform for scientific platform, yacht owners can get directly involved in data collection and preservation. Each scientific mission varies in location, duration and complexity, so finding vessels is a continuous effort for projects as varied as deep-sea exploration to water-quality monitoring.
