Newport, Rhode Island, was the only North American stopover location for the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race.
Spectators had a chance to see the seven competing race boats with as many as 10 crew apiece as they continued their eight-month, 45,000-nautical-mile race across four oceans, touching six continents.
There are 12 stopovers scheduled at international host cities, with Volvo Villages set up for activities. Newport’s historic Fort Adams hosted the May event, which included a harbor match race and clean ocean pledges.
