Something Big Down Under

New Zealand builder McMullen & Wing recently released the renderings and layouts for the partially completed steel expedition yacht Big Star. The custom 164-foot (50-meter) yacht has strong lines reminiscent of her predecessor, Big Fish, but the yard drew on the experience of the first build to improve upon the concepts and design. A product of the partnership between McMullen & Wing and Gregory C. Marshall Naval Architects, Big Star will feature a 19-foot (6-meter) splash pool, bulwark balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. The design team has explored two interior layout options—an owner-centered expedition yacht and a layout more suited to high-end charter—but other options are available as well. Because of the progress that has already been made, the yard expects a completion time of less than two years once the project finds the right owner.
