Originally built in 1992 for the Barcelona Olympics, the Salamanca Group bought Marina Port Vell in 2010 with an eye toward creating a place for large yachts to dock in the center of Barcelona.
The group transformed the marina from general-purpose docks holding up to 410 small- to medium-size vessels to a completely modern superyacht marina that will house 162 large motor and sailing yachts up to 180 meters.
“Our goal is to turn this historic location, originally used by the Phoenicians and Romans—and opened as Barcelona’s first yacht marina for the BCN Olympics—into a state-of-the-art superyacht facility,” says Norma Trease, director of Salamanca Marine. “Facilities will include a private clubhouse, an onsite gym, private crew meeting and lounge areas, electric transport, direct to-the-yacht registration—and the most advanced of environmentally friendly water and power systems. Construction is very advanced, and we are delivering the first berths later this year, with completion in 2014.”
Amenities at the revitalized marina have crew in mind, including the aforementioned crew-specific lounge as well as a coffee shop, pool and terrace. Besides the super-safe and secure berths and 24-hour reception, a new seven-star concierge service will include VIP travel facilitation, restaurant and entertainment reservation bookings, private shopping trips, crew training and more. Starting in the fall, look for the onsite storage options and vehicle parking with access to superyacht berths, mobile waste collection, super-fast internet service, as well as golf-cart transport and delivery. Shipyard MB92 sits adjacent to Marina Port Vell and provides everything from small repairs to full superyacht refits.
The first phase of berths will be available this fall. The marina is now accepting reservations for a limited number of long-term superyacht berth leases.
Marina Port Vell is a Blue Flag marina.
