More Pod Power

In Cannes, the Azimut Benetti Group unveiled a new hull and propulsion combination for future Azimut Grande models. With Azimut styling and DNA but built under the Benetti umbrella, the range currently includes yachts from 100 to 120 feet. A 140-foot flagship (pictured) is under development. The company also signed an exclusive agreement with Rolls-Royce for the development and use of Rolls-Royce carbon Azipull 65C pods on several new models. Joystick control, better seakeeping and efficiency, less vibration and bigger interior volume are some advantages this carbon azimuthing pod offers. It works with almost any type of drive or fuel (diesel, gas turbine or electric motor) and the carbon-composite construction means it’s about 50 percent lighter than a comparable metal unit. The system will go with a new hull featuring tunnels aft and a wave-piercing bow. The new hull shape has been optimized for speeds from 10 to 12 knots to a maximum speed of 22 to 25 knots.
