Ten Years of Wide Beam

Sunreef Yachts celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012. It has been an eventful decade for the company that Frenchman Francis Lapp established in Poland. Since the 2008 launch of the first 70 Sunreef Power, the company has contributed—perhaps more than any other—to the phenomenal growth of the powercat, particularly on the charter market. From its shipyard in Gdansk, Sunreef has launched 60 boats in a decade, mostly sail. The latest sail catamaran the company launched is Houbara, an 82-foot yacht built for a European owner planning to embark on a circumnavigation.

From design to marketing, Sunreef employs a dedicated and enthusiastic young staff who has carefully documented its milestones. Sailor Laurent Bourgnon’s trip around the world with his family aboard their 70 Sunreef Power helped establish the boats’ ability to handle serious seas. Currently, the shipyard has seven hulls under construction, both sail and power cats. The largest is an 80-foot sail catamaran with a single deck, built in advanced composite and carbon for speed and performance.

At the 2012 Cannes Boat Show, Sunreef introduced the new 60 Sunreef Power and unveiled an edgy concept for an 85-footer. To match the modern exterior, the builder is planning a minimalist interior using modular furniture. Like many superyachts, the 85 will have a full-beam master and a beach club providing easy access to the sea. Built for efficiency, the modest power of the 85 provides a generous range of 2,900 nautical miles at 12 knots.
