Dutch builder Royal Huisman, primarily known for sailing yachts, has signed a contract to build Project Phi: a fast-displacement, 180-foot (50-meter) motor-yacht with exterior design by Cor D. Rover, interiors by Lawson Robb and naval architecture by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.
Project Phi is expected to come in under 500 gross tons, with gyrostabilizers and a maximum speed of approximately 22 knots.
Royal Huisman says the owner wants serious machinery and technical systems in a long, slender hull—hence his looking to a builder of sailing yachts. The word Phi relates to the mathematical concept of a “golden ratio.”
Delivery is expected in 2021.
