Grey, the fifth hull in Tankoa’s 164-foot (50-meter) S501 series, centers around the first-time owner’s fondness for sun, the silver screen and soirees. He’s a seasoned charterer who drew up a long wish list of amenities for the shipyard to add. At the top was an attention-grabbing C Seed 144-inch cinema TV that folds—yes, folds—out at the bow, transforming the space into an outdoor theater.

That high-definition screen stands above a glass-encased pool with custom, submerged seats to keep guests cool on hot days. The pool—flanked by sunpads, sheltered by a temporary sunshade and supported by integrated speakers—pairs the grandeur of a Roman amphitheater with the latest technology.

“Our usual flexibility in satisfying customer requests is evident in the customizations made on board Grey, such as the installation of a swimming pool on the bow and the fantastic, never-seen-before cinema and sound system,” says Tankoa’s sales manager, Giuseppe Mazza.

The Genoese yard’s all-aluminum, semi-displacement series began with Hull No. 1, Vertige, delivered in 2017. The platform is engineered for long-range cruising with low fuel consumption and an 18-knot top speed. Exteriors are by Francesco Paszkowski.

Grey’s build began on speculation, and much of her trideck layout closely echoes the previous four hulls. The European owner added a contemporary interior by Giorgio Cassetta (the first interior in the series not by Paszkowski), in addition to the focus on technology, which also includes acoustic leather wallpaper. A sound system by Focal & Naim brings a cinematic quality to films and sports. The sky lounge doubles as a media room with a 65-inch LG Signature rollable TV, and swaps out previous builds’ second galley and pantry (conceived for ease of service) for an open bar. Starlink gives the yacht guaranteed connectivity. A TV is in every room, including a 55-inch screen in the master stateroom. Custom light fixtures are by Luce5.

Grey is the first of Tankoa’s Evo models, meaning evolution in design. Cassetta’s layout changes the traditional 90-degree bulkhead angles. At the owner’s request, it also eschews the clean lines and monochromatic soft furnishings aboard previous models. Woven saddle leather, oak and natural flamed Indian rosewood is mixed with white Macaubas quartzite, eucalyptus and palissandro bluette marble. Fabrics by Armani, Rubelli, Dedar, Filippo Uecher and Mariaflora complement the curated artworks.

“The client’s instructions were to deliver a result that would be luxurious and rich, a showcase of fine craftmanship,” Cassetta says.

On the main deck, enlarged windows and glass bulwarks draw the outside in. On the upper deck, reduced-size mullions allow for a wider view, and there are enlarged windows in the lower deck guest staterooms (two doubles, two twins). The ensuite, full-beam master stateroom is forward on the main deck with a walk-in closet and two asymmetrical fold-down balconies for morning coffees and evening aperitifs. Both the master and the main-deck VIP have built-in desk space to be used as offices.

The sundeck is yet another entertainment-focused zone. Extended by 108 square feet and shaded under a hardtop, it has a pool and pop-up tables for alfresco dining. An eye-catching kitchen-bar unit is made from painted aluminum and black-stained teak with what is said to be the largest slab of backlit black agate found on any yacht.

Abaft the engine room are a side-loading tender garage and an airy beach club with a fold-down transom, gym equipment, day head and hammam. It’s a thoughtful combination for respite at the water’s edge or an invigorating sea swim.

Sporting a whisper-gray hull and jet-black superstructure, Grey is capable of cruising 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots, according to Tankoa. Draft is just shy of 8 feet (2.4 meters).

After taking delivery of Grey in June 2023, the owner cruised in the Mediterranean for a few weeks before listing the yacht for charter and sale with TWW Yachts. As of this writing, Grey was available for bookings at a lowest weekly base rate of $290,000, and had an asking price of about $39.1 million.
