The Delta-built Triton, a well-traveled 163-foot expedition vessel, is being auctioned off at Nielsen Baumont Marine in San Diego, Ca., on April 26, 2013. At the time of her launch in 2004, Triton was the largest composite yacht built in the United States. She was conceived as a comfortable base of operation for a circumnavigation, exploration, diving and fishing. This adventure vessel, however, is a true yacht with a beautiful mahogany interior by the Delta Design Group for 14 guests and 10 crewmembers. Her decks accommodate a Eurocopter EC130B4 helicopter and a large tender. An additional tender can be accommodated in the garage and can be launched while the yacht is underway. A hydraulic dive platform provides easy access to the water, and the yacht carries a dive compressor suitable for Nitrox. She owes her distinctive looks in part to her crow’s nest, built in carbon fiber, and accessible through a lift. Two Cat engines give her a top speed of 16 knots and she cruises at 14 knots. Maximum range at 12 knots is 6,100 nautical miles.
