From the Sun-Sentinel—

A Wednesday night fire at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale engulfed and severely damaged a yacht estimated at 80 feet. The fire also damaged a neighboring 125-foot-yacht, according to Tim Heiser, deputy fire chief for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The agency was called at 10:12 p.m. regarding a boat fire at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Crews were able to put out the fire that engulfed the smaller vessel, but not before it damaged the 125-foot yacht next to it, Heiser said.

Fort Lauderdale police nautical units evacuated two people who were trapped on the larger yacht, Heiser said. No injuries were reported, although a firefighter was overcome by smoke and heat, and treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain under investigation.
