Oceans 10: Feadship’s Venus
By now, the world knows that the late Steve Jobs commissioned Venus and died before her completion. That much was revealed in his biography and verified by designer Philippe Starck.

Madame Gu, built under the project name Dream, is the largest Feadship thus far and the largest yacht built in Holland. You’ll have no trouble picking her out on the horizon due to her striking turquoise hull.

Four years in the making, Feadship’s 324-foot-10-inch (99-meter) yacht, project name Dream, recently was launched in Makkum in the Netherlands. The Andrew Winch–designed Dream is the largest yacht built to date by Feadship.

We did a little snooping around a few shipyards to find out what they’re hiding. What we found were extraordinary designers and amazing craftsmen laboring in the shadows of the big yachts. We have the inside scoop.
Sam Sorgiovanni has designed this 272-foot (83-meter) yacht. While Abeking + Rasmussen is mum about the project, Burgess has let it out that this beauty will launch in May.

A boat lover from a young age, this superstar and prolific designer usually lives on a boat or near the water where he can easily hop onto one of seven craft of all persuasions that he owns. Surprisingly, though the ocean is central to his life, he has only designed a handful of boats and yachts to date.

Ports Of Cause (POC), the brainchild of Joyce Clear of Clear Group International, is an innovative superyacht initiative, designed to promote yachting and to “give back.”

On the occasion of the 2012 Yacht Valley Press Tour organized by HISWA, the Dutch yachting industry association, we had the opportunity to visit De Voogt Naval Architects, a firm whose history is closely bound to that of superyacht builder Feadship.

One of the most anticipated new launches of the year, the new 256-foot-7-inch (78.2-meter) Venus slid into the water at Feadship’s Aalsmeer yard in the Netherlands on October 28.

Built by Feadship in 2007, Gallant Lady was the first Feadship to include lightweight aircraft materials in the interior construction to ensure efficiency, lighter weight and a shallow draft suited to her owners’ intended cruising area. While the onboard systems boast numerous technologically advanced components, one of the first things you notice are the yacht’s signature windows.
