The Editor’s Choice Award is a new AIM Marine Group event, recognizing the best the boating industry has to offer. It is a fast-paced multi-media evening, featuring food from restaurateur, DJ and author Steve Mortorano. Mortorano, who owns several restaurants in Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas, does not like to be called a chef, even if he has forged a reputation as one. He prefers being called a cook. He learned many of his savory recipes in his mother’s kitchen. A tough critic, he will also be judging the chef competition—Galley Wars—held at the Captains’ Den and Yachts International Pavilion during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The inaugural Editor’s Choice Award, which will feature live entertainment, takes place October 26 at the new Nova Southeastern’s Oceanographic Institute, in Dania, Florida. The venue is significant. Part of the evening proceeds will go toward supporting the new center’s programs. They include reef restoration and shark research programs.
