Benetti Yachts asked nearly 20 international design firms, including established designers and a few new to the industry, to develop superyacht projects in the 50- to 90-plus-meter range and explore the idea of the yacht of the future. The Benetti Design Innovation Challenge yielded 27 creative and beautifully articulated projects from 16 designers and their staffs, giving life to an unprecedented “catalog” under the Benetti umbrella. For young designers, the challenge also represented a unique opportunity to associate their name with Benetti, shoulder-to-shoulder with their renowned colleagues. The yachtbuilder presented the designs, available in a beautiful hardbound book, to press and friends at the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show.
Among the well-known designers who rose to the challenge were Bannenberg & Rowell, which produced a stylish 80-meter concept with a truly innovative aft and beach deck arrangement; Evan K. Marshall with two projects, the 60-meter Usonia VI and the 83-meter Usonia V—the latter sporting a foredeck helicopter bay—and Cor D. Rover with 50-, 55-,72- and 91-meter versions of a well-developed Beach Concept design. Benetti also presented designs from Horacio Bozzo at Axis Design Group, Design Studio Spadolini, Eidsgaard Design, Luca Dini, Luiz de Basto, Palomba Serafini Associates and Quartostile, among other firms.
