Engineered by Pure Composite in New Zealand and designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, 108-foot (33-meter) sloop Missy was designed to fulfill the needs of performance cruising.

To meet client expectation, Missy was constructed with foam cored pre-preg and reinforced with carbon fiber laminates. In addition to increased interior volume, the lightweight composite adds excellent soundproofing, vibration control and thermal insulation while remaining more than exceptionally mindful of performance, comfort and target weight goals.

“Missy has a spacious, comfortable interior in which a lot of attention was devoted to the efficient use of available space on board,” Louis Hamming of Vitters Shipyard said. “The compact engine room is fitted with a great amount of equipment and state of the art technology, while no compromises have been made on comfort or the use of advanced technologies.”

The first design build by Vitters Shipyard from the design studio of Malcolm McKeon, Missy was carefully and thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail, from satellite domes to drink holders. The distinct, largely glass canopy breaks away from the usual superstructure/windscreen design and provides a point of awe for design enthusiasts while managing to give an airy feel for guests in the salon. Guests are allowed to situate themselves unhindered aboard Missy due to her cockpit seating arrangement, even during sailing maneuvers. Malcolm McKeon of Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design commented on the undertaking: “I’ve been in the superyacht business for 30 years, producing designs across a broad expanse of style, but it’s been a particularly exciting experience to design this superyacht for a new client, helping him transition from his knowledge of production boats to a fully-customized superyacht.” The project of creating the superyacht was managed by Klaus Allebrodt of A2B Consulting.

The high performance, carbon fiber vessel has a 25-foot (7.5-meter) beam, a generous sail plan, lifting keel and a fully automated bimini and dodger system that sits comfortably flush and low profile when stowed. She’s in preparation for sea trials next week prior to commissioning the builder’s Harlingen facility.

Designed by Design Unlimited, Missy caters to a family with her galley unusually designed open-plan to the main salon. The superyacht was built for family interaction by providing a space that prompts memory of home instead of ones of traditional yacht sailing. The contemporary styled interior is designed to add warmth with textured accents and includes oak joinery touched with light grey finishing. Water sports equipment, a sailing dinghy and a 13.5-foot (4.1-meter) tender are housed in the lazarette.

Missy accommodates eight in total, plus a Pullman berth. The owner’s suite is far forward, two guest cabins are forward and a third guest cabin is aft. Also, Missy has space suited for extended periods at sea, adding in a generously sized crew mess and accommodations for four crew in two twin cabins with separate stall showers.

Missy will sail to the Caribbean prior to embarking on a longer worldwide voyage.
