Montkaj
LENGTH: 256ft. (78m)
SHIPYARD: Amels, Holland
YEAR: 1995
When Amels launched Montkaj in 1995 her length was 246 feet, which made the largest yacht built in the Netherlands at the time. A major refit in 2000 extended the yacht longer by 10 feet. Prince Mohammed, son of the late King Fahd, owns Montkaj, one of the world’s most secretive yachts. According to the shipyard, the superstructure incorporates clamshell doors for tender stowage. State-of-the-art electronics include fingertip-maneuvering controls at the helm and impressive entertainment capabilities. A spectacular staircase is the focus of the Terence Disdale interior. It is fairly certain that the owner’s suite is bi-level, distributed over the main and second decks. Twin 12-cylinder 2,525 hp Caterpillar engines power the yacht. No one has ever published pictures of the interior, but at night Montkaj, lit from her masthead to below the waterline, offers a fiber optic show of bright lights. She is a frequent visitor in Cannes, although her own port is Antibes.
